Welcome to Living in Denmark
This is your guide to understanding
the Danish way of living quickly and easily
The GKX Living in Denmark guide is based on more than 15 years of collected frustrations from international students in Denmark. The content covers information that most like to have a general understanding about but often find difficult to understand or to find the right webpages about.
Our guide is built up in themes with under pages that make it easy to navigate so that you can quickly find the answer when you stand in a scenario without knowing what to do. If you want to know more, just click on the links and go directly to the web pages of the responsible authorities or organizations.
In some cases, we have put: 🇩🇰. We do this with words where we consider that it may be practical for you to know the standard Danish translation of the word. Either for the purpose to Google it or to recognize the word “on the street” or if friends use the word.
1
LIVING AS A DANE
Denmark is at the forefront of the digitization of public services. However, it can be challenging to navigate in, as many info pages are only partially translated into English.
Here you find short descriptions of the most common daily needs, including the requirement of the use of MitID.
2
HANGING OUT WITH DANES
It is said that it can be challenging to make friends with Danes, but by showing up where they spend their free time, you are already well on your way to your first Danish friendship.
This part briefly introduces the Danish way of living outside school and work.
3
CULTURE AND TRADITIONS
Most countries and nationalities have a touch of behavior built on the culture and traditions that characterize them.
In this part, you find information about what makes the Danes Danish and a list of “Do and Don’t” when visiting a Danish family and hanging out with Danes.
4
EDUCATION SYSTEM
The Danish education system is characterized by social equality, lifelong learning, and a strong focus on the craftsman being as well-educated in his field as the senior physician.
In this part, we introduce you to the Danish education system from “kindergarten” to University.

EVENTS
What is life without hanging out, meeting friends, and building new networks and friendships? They can be hard to find in a new country, but not impossible when you know where to look.
Find a list of GKX events and a list of events to search for during the year.
